MetTel Wireless Case Study

MetTel Wireless Case Study

A TBI partner was working with a behavioral health services and wellness company that was awarded the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) contract for the United States Postal Service. Through the EAP, the wellness company would offer USPS employees access to face-to-face and telephonic counseling and video, text and online therapy, management coaching and comprehensive support in the event of a crisis. This meant that they were going to be putting their employees at USPS locations and were going to need to supply their own bandwidth for these offices so their employees could work on-site.

Being a customer of one of TBI’s partners, the wellness company was able to leverage that relationship and bring in MetTel. MetTel, TBI and the partner worked with the company, specifically their senior director of their IT and operations teams in order to develop a solution. The challenge was providing broadband ISP service into USPS offices some of which were huge compounds or postal service warehouses. Together the team developed a scope of work that the technicians would follow onsite; however, early on the team realized they were facing a lot of challenges. Besides ROE (right of entry), they were running into huge construction and ISW (inside wiring) costs that the customer had not budgeted for. The facilities were massive—some of them over a million square feet.

The team came up with a creative Plan B to overcome these obstacles. The engineers offered a wireless solution to the customer, deploying Sierra Wireless Dual SIM 4G routers to the customer’s existing on-prem. They configured them to the customer’s specs prior to shipping, and they would be provisioned with both AT&T and Verizon SIMs. Once the technicians got onsite, they tested both AT&T and Verizon to utilize whichever network had the strongest signal as the primary and the alternative SIM would be the backup.

In the end, the solution was approximately $6K MRC with a TCV of about $216K on a 36-month therm. When faced with challenged, TBI, MetTel and the partner were able to quickly pivot from a wireline broadband to a wireless 4GLTE backup solution that saved the project and got the remote offices up and running to meet the customer’s deadline.
